Six Scenes We Can't Wait to See in Catching Fire

Posted: 04/ 2/2012 11:22 am

While The Hunger Games is still in theatres, we are all wondering what is going to happen with Catching Fire. Hunger Games left us at Katniss and Peeta returning to District 12, and Catching Fire begins with their new lives as victors.

Catching Fire takes you on a wild ride. But what are the six things we think have to be included in the Catching Fire movie?

President Snow in District 12

Let's face it, President Snow embodies evil. I mean, how creepy was the final scene of The Hunger Games with him watching Katniss and Peeta? The man showing up at Katniss' house is a pivotal turning point in her life in Catching Fire. She begins to realize what exactly happened in the arena and what it may cost her. It also is the moment where we really can see what Katniss is willing to do for her family, Gale and Peeta.

The Cornucopia Spinning Around

The Cornucopia Spinning round and round when they find that the arena is a clock. Going to be honest here, I think that this will just be entertaining. I kind of want to see people flying through the air, and then everyone coming back together. This scene is a way to show that they are all a team, and that Katniss can trust everyone.

Katniss in Her Wedding Gown

Now, we are all for the scene where she is trying on all of the gowns at her house in Victor's Village, but the one we are talking about is when she is getting interviewed by Cesaer Flickerman. When her gown goes up in flames and she is transformed into the Mockingjay. President Snow's plan to make her wear the dress sure backfired on him.

Peeta's Proposal and the Baby

Sorry, we know that it's staged, and it's all a ploy, but it's a proposal. And it is from Peeta. Every fan has it in their mind how it should be. Katniss' reaction to the proposal is important to us. We want to see if she softens for a minute and show's her love for Peeta. Also, we think the proposal is important, because it leads up to the moment when Peeta tells Ceasar that Katniss is pregnant.

Johanna Mason Digging the Tracker Out of Katniss' Arm

I love Katniss, don't get me wrong. But it's funny how she says that she could easily kill Johanna if she has to a little bit earlier, and then Katniss is knocked out, with Johanna scooping out a tracker from her arm with a knife.

Katniss Seeing Gale After She Finds Out About the Quell

This is so important. It's the moment where she makes a stand, and realizes that she loves both Peeta and Gale, but can't leave anyone behind. She knows what she has done, she knows that her family is in danger, and she knows that she will not desert Peeta. To the reader, it's the moment where you know that there will never be a Gale and Katniss.

We could go on and on for scenes that we would love to see. Katniss and Gale's Kiss, Prim and Mrs. Everdeen fixing Gale after his whipping, Katniss getting back over the electric fence. The real question is, what do you want to see?

I don't know why, but I've always loved the scene right after Katniss makes it back over the electrified fence and to her house in the Victor's village and the peacekeepers are there. Yet, she has no game, just candy, and she starts playing around, pretending with the rest of the characters, and I've always liked that scene, 'cause it's funny, sweet, and it shows how much the rest of the characters care for Katniss.

This will be ONE HELL of a movie spectacle. I already knew there would be a second hunger games but I was curious how they'd pull it off. I admit I was impressed. Having a second games initially sounded like they're milking the concept, also I felt Collins can't possibly top the first Arena in terms of events, contestants, relationships...etc. Of course, I was sorely mistaken. The arena design is a true work of art in terms of writer's imagination. Absolutely brilliant. The relationships between the contestants are way deeper, and more engaging. The part before the games where they watch previous games was bloody amazing too. I think the events in the second book warrants a 3-hr picture. There's just too much to skip the way they did on the first one. I can't wait to see the force field scenes... or the arena introduction scene in general... Oh and that scene where Katniss loses herself in training and freaks everyone out as she shoots down the fake birds with impeccable speed and percision.. Dammit that is another scene I can't wait to see... And Katniss' Wedding/Mockingjay dress.... the 'baby' bomb.... Cinna being beat up.... then there are the purely blockbuster mind blowing scenes like the arena spinning around... Bombing District 12 to oblivion... dammit the content here is almost 10x that of the first book. Well done, Ms. Collins.

I for one hope that not much footage is wasted on the romantic triangle, which is important to the story only insofar as it is provides a tool for the Capitol to manipulate Katniss and Peeta. I'm much more interested in the scenes of growing rebellion in the Districts and in lots of good character development in the new secondary characters: the winners of past Games, many of whom turn out to be much more than meets the eye. I'm especially looking forward to seeing the casting for the roles of Beetee and Wiress, who are such wonderfully weird characters. I also hope that they don't give short shrift to the scene where Plutarch shows Katniss his pocketwatch - you should come away from that bit with a strong sense that he is trying to tell her something important.

And do you really want to watch gory closeups of Johanna gouging the tracker out of her arm? Ugh. That I could do without.

I want to see Zac Efron as Finnick, wearing the golden net and nothing else. Sigh.

Seriously? You couldn't figure out from the title that this was going to tell you some important details from the sequel?

If someone hasn't read Catching Fire, why would they read an article about?!

Because I went with my girl to see the movie, and I was curious.

I wasn't aware that it was en vogue to just randomly disseminate plot details under the assumption that every single person who might be curious about an article should have read the book.

These days, it's a basic internet courtesy, when posting a review or dealing with specifics in a commentary, to warn the reader that exposure is forthcoming.
