'Nubs' Movie Will Be Like 'Marley & Me' Set in the Iraq War

Having a ruff day? Major Brian Dennis had many of those while serving on the front lines in Iraq. Then he found an abused dog and together they helped each other survive a war zone.

Major Brian Dennis, a Marine fighter pilot who served three tours in Iraq, was patrolling with his team along the Syrian border when they found dozens of homeless and abused dogs. Dennis called the stray who took a particular liking to his team "Nubs" because his ears had been purposely cut off by an Iraqi to make him a fighter dog. Having a ruff day? Major Brian Dennis had many of those while serving on the front lines in Iraq. Then he found an abused dog and together they helped each other survive a war zone.

Major Brian Dennis, a Marine fighter pilot who served three tours in Iraq, was patrolling with his team along the Syrian border when they found dozens of homeless and abused dogs. Dennis called the stray who took a particular liking to his team "Nubs" because his ears had been purposely cut off by an Iraqi to make him a fighter dog.

Nubs is the fastest dog Dennis has ever seen, and says the pooch would run 35 mph along with their Humvee -- long after the other dogs stopped. Then one day Nubs was intentionally stabbed with a screwdriver. Dennis gave the pooch antibiotics, but didn't expect him to survive the night with 18 degree temperatures. Remarkably, Nubs did survive ... and spent days alone in the desert following Major Dennis and his team over 70 miles to their new assigned location. It's against military regulations to keep dogs on base, but Dennis knew this stray had fought long enough to survive. With the help of friends and an e-mail chain, he raised $5,000 to fly Nubs back home to San Diego so he could wait for his new best friend's tour to end.

Are you tearing up yet? Warner Brothers is betting this story will strike the same emotional nerve that 'Marley & Me' did, so they're bringing the narrative of a Marine and his mutt to the big screen. Justin Zackham, writer of 'The Bucket List,' will script and co-produce 'Nubs.' Like 'Marley,' the film will show the human and animal connection -- but don't expect to see combat scenes even though this dog's tale begins in Iraq.

The sexy big-screen vampires (and one werewolf) teamed up to take a huge bite out of the People's Choice Awards, as 'Twilight' led the nominations with six accolades, including best actor and actress for Robert Pattinson and Kristen Stewart, and favorite on-screen team, franchise and movie. If there was an award for having the best week, Taylor Lautner, you'd be a shoo-in. First, the other Taylor (Swift), his rumored girlfriend, gave him a special wink and air kiss on 'SNL' and now he's up for breakout movie actor. Well done, Team Jacob. Oh.My.'Twilight'! Besides giving kudos to the Cullens, 'Star Trek' and 'X-Men Origins: Wolverine' are also major contenders feeling the public love: they're tied for second with four nods each. 'Star Trek''s Chris Pine and Zachary Quinto will battle against Lautner in the breakout category, while 'Twilight' dukes it out with 'X-Men,' 'Transformers' and 'Harry Potter' for fave on-screen team and favorite movie franchise.

If the 36th annual People's Choice Awards plays out anything like the Teen Choice Awards and MTV Movie Awards, Twihards -- those intense fans of Stephenie Meyer's book series -- will overwhelmingly triumph in the major categories ... but we predict it won't be a full sweep.

And you may catch a few other surprises during the night. The People's Choice, hosted by Queen Latifah, is vamping up with new categories (maybe next year there can be a "Best Body Building" category for Lautner) and even a new winner's trophy. The show will air live from Los Angeles at the Nokia Theater on Jan. 6 at 9PM EST on CBS.

Abigail Breslin to Play Helen Keller on Broadway

Little Miss Sunshine herself is headed for the Great White Way. Abigail Breslin has officially been tapped to play Helen Keller in the Broadway revival of William Gibson's 'The Miracle Worker.' The show, scheduled to open March 3 with previews beginning February 12 at Circle in the Square Theatre, will be produced by David Richenthal, longtime friend of Gibson, and directed by Kate Whoriskey. Breslin, a 13-year-old New York native, will also be joined onstage by Alison Pill, playing the role of Helen's unwavering teacher Annie Sullivan.

'The Miracle Worker' tells the story of Sullivan's sheer determination to help a blind and deaf Keller communicate with the world around her, despite Keller's mother's disapproval of Sullivan's role in her daughter's life. The story was originally written for TV in 1957, with the Broadway version following two years later. Patty Duke played the original Broadway role of Helen and Anne Bancroft took center stage as Annie. Both women later won Academy Awards for the film adaptation of their roles.

We understand that you might be jaded -- haven't we seen the Hollywood to Broadway bust before? Ahem, Sienna Miller. But when the curtain rolls up for Breslin, she has one thing working in her favor that the vast majority of Hollywood never had -- an Oscar nom at age 10. Pretty impressive.

If the new trailer is any indication, Matt Damon, Morgan Freeman and Clint Eastwood are poised to score Oscar gold with 'Invictus,' a bold new drama about how in 1995 Nelson Mandela (Freeman) and a young white rugby star (Damon) used the sport to overcome apartheid by uniting South Africa behind one common goal: winning the rugby World Cup. If the new trailer is any indication, Matt Damon, Morgan Freeman and Clint Eastwood are poised to score Oscar gold with 'Invictus,' a bold new drama about how in 1995 Nelson Mandela (Freeman) and a young white rugby star (Damon) used the sport to overcome apartheid by uniting South Africa behind one common goal: winning the rugby World Cup.

Mandela's shown at a rugby game noting, "All of the whites are cheering for South Africa. All of the blacks are cheering for England." It was a common occurrence at the time in South Africa for blacks, who felt alienated from their own country, to root for the opposing team. Mandela, seeing this as an opportunity for change, calls upon the white captain of South Africa's disgraced rugby team (Matt Damon) to rally his teammates -- and thus inspire an entire nation of people at odds to share a common goal.

Directed by Clint Eastwood and hitting theaters December 11, 'Invictus' shows how a simple rugby team answered their president's call to action, became an international symbol and created history both on and off the field.

Jennifer Lopez's first ex-hubby, Ojani Noa, is writing a movie that will parody their marriage, but Jennifer doesn't see this as a laughing matter -- in fact, her lawyers have already sent a cease and desist letter to halt production of the film. Ed Meyer, producer of the flick titled 'How I Married Jennifer Lopez: The JLo and Ojani Noa Story,' calls the film a "mockumentary" and tells Moviefone exclusively, "This movie is similar to 'Borat.' It's about Ojani Noa in 2010 still being in love with Jennifer Lopez."

The couple met while Noa, a Cuban immigrant, was waiting tables in Miami. They married in 1997, only to divorce less than a year later, and it's been a battle of the exes ever since.

Round 1: Post-divorce tensions seemed to smooth over when Noa became head chef at Lopez's restaurant Madre's, but he was terminated after just four months and sued Lopez for doing so. Ouch!

Round 2: Things got even uglier when Noa tried publishing a tell-all book that would reveal nitty-gritty details about their marriage -- including her supposed affair with current spouse (but married at the time!) Marc Anthony. Jenny threw hard punches back and took Noa to court citing an injunction he signed two years prior that said he couldn't cast Jennifer Lopez in a negative light or disclose intimate details about their relationship for monetary gain. Noa was eventually ordered to pay Lopez a whopping $545,000 for violating the agreement.

Round 3: Now Team J. Lo is dishing Noa yet another blow by citing that same injunction as grounds to ax his project. Will this be the final knockout?

Despite Lopez's latest jab, Meyer insists he's still "100%" confident the show will go on, because the film's a parody and therefore protected from the previous injunction. Meyer continues to tell us, "She won't let him tell her story ... He can't describe her emotions, reactions, thoughts, what she said, things like that ... He's never been able to tell his story. She said, 'Here's X amount of dollars, sign this piece of paper, now get out of my life and you can never talk to anybody about my life again.'"

Will Jenny get the last laugh? No way, according to Meyer. "[Ojani]'s adamant about showing her in the true light, and it's going to shock her fans. She's not the person you think she is."

The film is scheduled to begin shooting in February.

Eager Twihards, rejoice! After treating fans to a nice little bare-chested Taylor Lautner clip last week, Summit Entertainment is giving Team Edward fans a reason to weep with joy this week, thanks to another brand-new 'New Moon,' clip. This one should -- though it probably won't -- satisfy your Robert Pattinson cravings until the movie is finally released on November 20th. Watch the clip after the jump. Eager Twihards, rejoice! This one should -- though it probably won't -- satisfy your Robert Pattinson cravings until the movie is finally released on November 20th.

The clip opens with Edward (Pattinson) and Bella (Kristen Stewart) facing Aro (Michael Sheen) after the Volturi (that's the esteemed vampire tribunal, for the uninitiated) discover just how in tune Bella is with their underground vampire world. After referring to her as "a liability," the Volturi send in their muscle -- otherwise known as Felix (Daniel Cudmore) -- to handle the situation. Of course, Edward is having none of this. With lightning speed, the fair-skinned vamp heartthrob springs into action, tossing Bella out of harm's way and taking one heck of a first-rate beatdown, all in the name of love.

Judging by the 'New Moon' clips and trailer's we've seen thus far, the sequel looks to be more action-packed -- and shirt-free -- than the original. Bring it on.
