HuffPost Review: Black Swan (2010)

| Posted 12.01.2010

Darren Aronofsky's Black Swan is a dazzling and often intoxicating horror story. No, it's not a body count slasher picture or a supernatural spook story, but it is every bit as unnerving as the best in traditional horror.

Smoke, but No Fire: Bosnian Activist Group 'Women Victims of War' Attacks Angelina Jolie Over Made-up Concerns Regarding Her New Film

| Posted 12.02.2010

To attack someone who has been an advocate for refugees because of fabricated concerns about sympathetic treatment of rapists in a film they haven't seen, from a script they haven't read, is absurd and counterproductive.

Tangled Tops, Black Swan Soars, and Warrior's Way Fumbles in Post-Thanksgiving Box Office

| Posted 12.05.2010

There was but a single new wide-release this weekend, as the weekend after Thanksgiving is a scary time for Hollywood. Few studios are willing to risk dealing with the post-holiday hangover, so this weekend brings just The Warrior's Way.

Blu-Ray Review: Inception (2010)

Read More: Inception, News

Inception looks and sounds absolutely sparkling on this Blu-Ray set, but the supplemental package leaves a bit to be desired, with most of it recycled from previously available material.

HuffPost Review: The Fighter (2010)

| Posted 12.08.2010

Warts and all, The Fighter is a completely entertaining and compelling character study. It may be just another 'underdog attempts to triumph with the help of a trusted girlfriend' fable, but thanks to the cast, it's a darn-good entry in a well-worn genre.

Narnia 3 and Depp/Jolie Vehicle The Tourist Flop, The Fighter and Black Swan Excel in Limited Release: Weekend Box Office (12/12/10).

| Posted 12.12.2010

It was a gruesome weekend for wide releases, as two sure-fire openers underperformed, which frankly ought to make Disney very nervous for next weekend.

HuffPost Review: Tron: Legacy (2010)

| Posted 12.14.2010

Most bad movies make me a little sad. Tron: Legacy made me angry. Its sheer laziness on every level feels like a cynical experiment, a way to test if audiences will bite at anything that has enough special effects and dollars thrown at it.

Blu Ray Review: The Town (2010)

| Posted 12.16.2010

The extended cut really gives fans their money's worth, with nearly a half-hour of extra character development and a bit more action during the major set-pieces.

Weinstein Company, Miramax team up to pillage their past glories.

| Posted 12.17.2010

It's not a little sad and a lot ironic. Say what you will about Bob and Harvey Weinsten and Miramax, but they made their fortune and glory in the 199...

Weekend Box Office Review: Tron: Legacy Stays Above Water, How Do You Know Flops

| Posted 12.19.2010

That Disney was able to convince the moviegoing populace that they wanted to see a sequel to a 28-year old film that barely anyone remembers in any detail is both a testament to Disney's marketing skill and a sad commentary on blockbuster filmmaking.

Why I Won't Be Seeing Little Fockers in Theaters...

| Posted 12.22.2010

What do The Wolfman, Salt, Knight and Day, The A-Team and The Town all have in common? They're glorified B-movie thrillers mocking theatrical audiences by unleashing more substantial versions on home video just months after release.

2010-12-26-inception.jpgFor the record, not all of the films below are bad pictures. But they all generated critical and/or audience esteem they perhaps did not entirely earn.

Christmas Box Office: Little Fockers Opens Soft, True Grit Sets Record for a Western, Tron: Legacy Struggles

| Posted 12.26.2010

I remember being genuinely shocked at the success of Meet the Fockers back in Christmas 2004. It had been well over four years since the original and...

2010 in Review: The Underrated

| Posted 12.27.2010

Let us continue our look back at the year in film with a token acknowledgement of ten films that were not quite as bad as their critical reputations. For the record, not all of them are good pictures, but none are pure failures, either.

2010 in Review: Good Movies You Missed

| Posted 12.29.2010

Let us continue our look back at the year in film with a token acknowledgement of eleven good if-not great films that flew by the radar without much acknowledgment from audiences and/or the critical community.

2010 in Review: The 'Worst' Films of the Year

| Posted 12.31.2010

2011-01-01-air.jpgSadly, this was the first year in as long as I've been doing this where it was easier to make up a 'worst of year' than a 'best of year'.
