Today, as you're reading this, a new "found footage" film titled "Chronicle" is playing at your local theater. But there's something that makes "Chronicle" slightly more interesting than past entries in this genre: It's not a horror movie. "Chronicle" is the tale of three high school students -- Andrew, the shy loner; Matt, Andrew's slightly more outgoing cousin; and Steve, the popular star athlete -- who develop mysterious powers after an encounter with an unexplained, underground orb-like object. "Chronicle" is an interesting movie. So interesting, in fact, that Jordan Hoffman (from Next Movie, /Film and formerly UGO's movies editor) and myself decided that an Obsessive Chat was necessary. (Spoilers ahead, obviously.)
With "Big Miracle" being released this weekend, I was told that it's my responsibility to write a best movie list in conjunction with its arrival in theaters. I find this peculiar. My instructions were so specific and, for the life of me, I can't figure out how this topic relates at all to "Big Miracle." Alas, I'm not one to ignore a direct order from a superior, so here's a list of the Best Movie Wails. [Ed. note: No, you spelled it wrong; we meant "Best Whale Movies."]
"SNL" decided to really focus on Tatum's beefcake status. Put it this way: I saw Channing Tatum with his shirt off not one, not two, but three times. We get it: Channing Tatum is a good-looking guy.
When "Star Wars: Episode I - The Phantom Menace" first premiered on May 19, 1999, it had been 16 years since the last new Star Wars movie. So, yes, there was a lot of anticipation and speculation. That's a stark contrast to this week, which finds "The Phantom Menace" being re-released in 3D to a collective shrug amongst even the most die hard "Star Wars" fans. That's a far cry from the lead up to its original release, which caused a very young Internet to explode with crazy rumors about the new film; rumors that were, for the most part, not true.
I get the sense that Jason Sudeikis is just in his own little world on the show these days. Like in a, "Hey, Jason, after Romney, you've got nothing until 'Bongo's Clown Room.' Do you want to be in any other sketches?" "Nah, I'm good," kind of way.
This afternoon, Sony previewed new footage from the you're-anticipating-it-more-than-you-think-you-are reboot of the Spider-Man franchise, "The Amazing Spider-Man." The event was simulcast in four cities -- New York, Los Angeles, London and Rio de Janiero -- but only the post-Super Bowl crowd in the Big Apple was treated to an in-person visit by star Andrew Garfield.
May 19, 1999, was going to be one of the greatest days of my life -- and it was all going to begin at midnight. Yeah, I was that guy. I was the guy who scoured every nook and cranny of the Internet in an effort to digest every possible rumor about what I might see in "The Phantom Menace." I was the guy who was camped out for hours in an effort to purchase tickets to see "Star Wars: Episode I - The Phantom Menace." I was the guy who then waited in line for hours to ensure halfway decent seats to "The Phantom Menace." I was the guy who cheered the 20th Century Fox logo. I was the guy who cheered when "STAR WARS" flashed on the screen, accompanied by John Williams' very famous score. And, for a brief moment in time, I was the guy who loved "The Phantom Menace."

Zooey Deschanel's efforts as the host of were quite great. But when a news story as big as Whitney Houston's death breaks mere hours before the live show, it puts "SNL" in the weird position of being a "topical" live show, but not really.
I usually hate it when a parody impression is done right in front of the person being parodied. Both Abby Elliott and Andy Samberg somehow pulled off this stunt on Saturday night without it being excruciating.
