Guillermo Del Toro's deliciously Gothic horror film "Crimson Peak," starring Mia Wasikowska as an innocent who falls for charming but penniless Brit Tom Hiddleston, is heavily influenced by some of his (and our) favorite horror classics, including "The Innocents" (1961), "The Haunting" (1963), and "The Shining" (1980).

The film also draws on some Hitchcock classics: Might the elaborate hairdo of Jessica Chastain (who plays Hiddleston's sinister sis) be inspired by the frightening Mrs. Danvers in "Rebecca?"

And all those metaphoric butterflies (featured in the film's posters) can't help but remind us of another Victorian tale, "Angels & Insects."
