Sometimes, people are born into the wrong body. Caitlyn Jenner knew it. So did Lili Elbe, one of the first people in history to undergo gender reassignment surgery.

Her story is told in "The Danish Girl," starring Oscar winner Eddie Redmayne. Einar Wegener's
transformation into Lili begins as a lark, when her artist wife Gerda (Alicia Vikander) asks her to stand in for a female model.

Eventually, Einar begins to dress as Lili in public, and makes the step to receive surgery to permanently change her body. Gerda supports her, but things get messy when Lili is attracted to a man.

"The Danish Girl" has "Oscar bait" written all over it. It's directed by an Oscar nominee and stars last year's Best Actor Oscar winner. And the topic could not be buzzier. Still, it looks fantastic — there's a reason Oscar bait is so appealing. Redmayne's performance seems nuanced and vulnerable, and he could easily get another nomination this year.

"The Danish Girl" premieres at the Venice Film Festival this week, then opens in limited release November 7.
