E'dena Hines, the granddaughter of actor Morgan Freeman's first wife, was found dead around 3 a.m. on Sunday, August 16, having suffered multiple stab wounds to the chest. She was 33. According to The Associated Press, Lamar Davenport, 30 -- reportedly E'dena's boyfriend -- was arrested Monday on a murder charge. The New York Times said that, after he was taken into custody on Sunday, the suspect was hospitalized for a psychological evaluation. A witness told CBS New York he heard the couple fighting from his apartment window around 2 a.m. "I heard him say something like 'Devil, be gone, Jesus and God." Another witness added, "He was kneeling over her and screaming about 'God has arisen."

The circumstances sound bizarre, but -- whatever the details -- a young woman's life was taken and her family is devastated. E'dena, an actress, played a receptionist in Morgan's movie "5 Flights Up," which was just released in May. The legendary actor reacted to his stepgranddaughter's death in a statement to People:

The world will never know her artistry and talent, and how much she had to offer. Her friends and family were fortunate enough to have known what she meant as a person. Her star will continue to shine bright in our hearts, thoughts and prayers. May she rest in peace."

Morgan also later posted a message of thanks to his 17 million Facebook fans:

I want to acknowledge the tremendous outpouring of love and support my family has received regarding the tragic and senseless passing of my granddaughter Edena Hines. Thank you from the bottom of my heart. -M"
