"Louie" for an undefined period while he sees other projects. FX had its TCAs press talk on Friday and FX Productions CEO John Landgraf said "Louie" is on "extended hiatus" after 61 episodes. The most recent Season 5 finished airing its eight episodes in May.

As Landgraf put it (via "Curb Your Enthusiasm" may be "the right analogy." Apparently he would like the show to run for 20 years, but it's up to Louis. They haven't canceled the series or anything; it's not "goodbye," it's just "we really really hope to see you later."

Variety noted that the departure was blamed on scheduling, since Louis is an executive producer on three other projects for FX — including the clown comedy "Baskets" and single mother/actress comedy "Better Things." "Louie" is no stranger to making fans wait -- the show took a two-year break after Season 3. Maybe absence will once again make the heart grow fonder, and make the comedy even sharper since they'll air it when it's ready not just when they need it to fill FX's lineup.

Are you sorry to hear "Louie" is taking an extended break?
