We've long ago shed the notion that anything is sacred when it comes to Hollywood, so it's not a surprise really to learn that The CW is making a "hyper-stylized, gritty" adaptation of Louisa May Alcott's "Little Women."

The beloved, classic novel (also made into a 1994 movie) is about the four March sisters — Meg, Jo, Beth, and Amy — and their mother. Their trials and tribulations are more in the gentle vein than the "gritty" one.

But, as "NCIS" star Michael Weatherly (random!).

In their version, the girls are half-sisters who are trying to survive the "dystopic streets of Philadelphia." And they must work together to "unravel a conspiracy that stretches far beyond anything they have ever imagined — all while trying not to kill each other in the process."

To their credit, The CW does gritty dystopia pretty well (watch "The 100"). Just tell us Jo and Laurie end up together in this one, and we might be on board.
