Brie Larson really ought to have been nominated for an Oscar for her amazing performance in "Short Term 12" a few years ago, but she'll have the chance to right that wrong with what looks to be a captivating turn in "Room."

"Room" (not to be mistaken for the campy cult flick "The Room") tells the story of a woman named Ma and her young son, Jack (Jacob Tremblay) who are held captive in a small, dark space for years. Ma tries her best to create a complete universe inside the room for Jack, until the chance comes to escape. Then, they have to face their greatest test: living in the real world.

The trailer is alternately chilling, horrifying, hopeful, gut-wrenching, sad, and beautiful. Even in this brief glimpse, Larson is tremendous, portraying Ma as strong and vulnerable at the same time.

"Room" will debut at the Toronto International Film Festival before opening in limited release Oct. 16.
