Poor "Fifty Shades of Grey" is having a rough Hump Day. Go give it a spanking to make it feel better!

First, it looks like a manuscript of E.L. James's next book, "Grey" has been stolen. That's the novel that's coming out next week, telling "Fifty Shades of Grey" from Christian Grey's perspective. According to the BBC, police are now investigating what happened, after Random House reported a missing copy on Tuesday. So you may end up seeing passages leaked online. Good for you (if you're a fan), bad for the author and publisher.

So that's a setback. Potentially worse though, is the shade "Fifty Shades of Grey" screenwriter Kelly Marcel just threw on Bret Easton Ellis's podcast. She hasn't seen the movie, starring Dakota Johnson and Jamie Dornan, because it was such a heartbreaking process with so many compromises. Vulture captured a bunch of quotes from Kelly, who co-wrote the first movie's script with E.J. James. Here are a few of her thoughts on the script, why Charlie Hunnam left, and why she hasn't seen the movie:

When I delivered that script was when I realized that all of them saying, Yeah, absolutely this is what we want!, and, You can write anything you like and get crazy and artistic with it — that was utter, utter bullshit. Rightly so. Erika [author E.L.] was like, This isn't what I want it to be, and I don't think this is the film the fans are looking for. ... She ended up coming into my house for a week, and we kind of wrote side-by-side and put things back in. She would always let me argue and fight for things that I felt passionate about. In the end, I think we ended up with a draft that was a halfway compromise, but she had still been very brave about what she had let go. Ultimately, Erika did have all of the control.

...I know that Charlie had a lot of notes. I know that he felt that the character of Christian wasn't there for him in the way that he needed him to be. And I think that's when Patrick [Marber] got brought on. ... Charlie is a screenwriter, I think he's written a vampire or Van Helsing script, or something like that. ... He said he was so sad to leave the project, because he had really, really bonded with Sam [Taylor-Johnson], and really liked Sam a lot.

...My heart really was broken by that process, I really mean it. I don't see it out of any kind of bitterness or anger or anything like that. I just don't feel like I can watch it without feeling some pain about how different it is to what I initially wrote."

Oh well. The second movie, "Fifty Shades Darker," is scheduled for a February 10, 2017 release, with E.L. James's husband Niall writing the script. The third movie, "Fifty Shades Freed," is scheduled for February 9, 2018. And now maybe whoever stole that copy of "Grey" can take his or her turn to point out all the flaws.
