"Super Troopers 2" sped past its crowdfunding goal in just over 24 hours, collecting more than $2.5 million since it launched on Tuesday.

The long-gestating sequel to 2001 comedy "Super Troopers" began an Indiegogo campaign with the intention of raising $2 million in 31 days in order to make the flick a reality. The Broken Lizard comedy troupe -- the guys who created and starred in the original movie -- said that they had received permission from studio Fox to make the film, but would need to finance it themselves in order to have it distributed.

In response, fans of the flick greatly exceeded the campaign's expectations, snatching up rewards (including a $35,000 patrol car and a $15,000 trip to a ballpark with the film's cast) left and right, surprising the comedians and giving moviegoers the chance to see even more crazy shenanigans onscreen. In a series of updates on the Indiegogo page, Broken Lizard thanked their fans for their support.

"We couldn't do this without your help and you have no idea how grateful we are for your contributions, shares, comments...all of it!" the comedians wrote. "You're a bunch of rock stars and we're simultaneously humbled and pumped. Pumbled is probably the best way to describe it."

Broken Lizard also encouraged fans to keep donating to the cause.

"We can make the skinny version of Super Troopers 2 but I think we all want the muscular version so let's keep going," they wrote.
