In an clip released by the campaign Monday, Barns is participating in a video chat interview about his love for the sci-fi series, which he said stretched back to the 1977 premiere of "Episode IV: A New Hope." Barns recounted waiting in line outside a local theater to watch the film, and being hooked ever since.
"I just couldn't get it out of my head for 35 years," he said. "There's movies that I love, and then there's 'Star Wars.'"
Barns was in the middle of trying to answer a query about his favorite "Star Wars" moment from the past few decades when we was surprised with the news that he'd won the Force for Change contest, nearly falling out of his chair in the process. The overwhelmed Barns, surrounded by cheering campaign organizers and video and cell phone cameras, turned back to his interview and smiled.
"To answer your question, this is probably my favorite moment," he said.
"Star Wars": Force for Change raised more than $4.26 million for UNICEF's Innovation Labs, in addition to a $1 million pledge from Disney. Barns will be flown to the "Episode VII" set in London, where he'll get a personalized tour and be fitted for a costume and film a scene for the flick.
"Star Wars: Episode VII" -- featuring Barns -- will hit theaters on December 18, 2015.
