The trailer starts out with a nifty series of flashbacks to the earlier adventures of Sookie Stackhouse (Anna Paquin), the telepathic waitress who has a knack for falling in love with supernatural creatures of the night, like vampires Bill (Stephen Moyer) and Eric (Alexander Skarsgard) and werewolf Alcide (Joe Manganiello). "We can't go back to the way things were," she bemoans.
We then get flashes of the new season: a pack of vampire, hopped up on Hep-V (an artificial virus created by the humans to kill off vampire-kind), rampaging and killing. From there it looks like uneasy alliances will be formed (poor Andy Bellefleur) and the entire town is going to descend into madness, before an all-out war between the humans and supernatural beings comes to a head. (The shots of Bon Temps, empty of both monsters and humans, are eerie and unexpectedly resonant.)
Of course, the trailer also promises the series' liberal mixture of sex, violence, and soap opera plotting. Hopefully whoever hasn't gotten naked or slammed with a small bathtub full of fake blood up until this point will do so in these final few episodes. Hey, a boy can dream.
