Until now, a lot of people -- including us -- have been wondering what kind of relationship Redford's character, Alexander Pierce, and S.H.I.E.L.D. head Fury have, and what this clip tells us is that it is a long and storied (and professional) one. But that doesn't mean a clandestine conversation between the two needs to be all work and no play; that's just not the Marvel way.
"I work forty floors away and it takes a highjacking for you to visit?" Pierce asks. To which Fury quips, "A nuclear war would do it, too."
Then, things get down to business, with Fury asking a favor -- a gigantic one -- of Pierce, and all the while Fury looks nervous. In fact, we've rarely seen this kind of concern from Fury, which makes us think that something unprecedented (as in, horribly, horribly bad) is going down in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. Heavy, right?
Then, true to Marvel form, Pierce brings up Iron Man and things get light again. Because no one can take Tony Stark seriously, not even Tony Stark.
"Captain America: The Winter Soldier" hits theaters April 4.
