Splash Cast Now and ThenEverett

"Splash," the sweet story of a man who falls in love with a mermaid, turns 30 this year. Since then, star Tom Hanks has gone on to become one of Hollywood's favorite leading men and the name "Madison" went from being just a famous avenue to one of the most popular girl's names in the U.S. and England.

The movie was the first from Disney's Touchstone label, one that allowed them to include some racier content, such as the implication that Hanks's and Hannah's characters got busy on top of a refrigerator.

"Splash," which opened on March 9, 1984, earned $69 million, making it the 10th-highest-grossing film of that year. (Not bad on an $8 million budget.)

The script was nominated for a Best Original Screenplay Oscar, and the movie was up for a Golden Globe for Best Picture, Comedy or Musical.

A little-known sequel appeared on TV in 1988 called "Splash, Too."

If you're looking for an update on the kids who played young versions of Hanks and Hannah, this was their only film.
