And the winner for Best Supporting Actress is Lupita Nyong'o for "12 Years a Slave."
Going into the Academy Awards this year, it was a two-way race between Lawrence and Nyong'o, who had been splitting the honors leading up to Oscar night after both turning in wonderful performances. In the end, however, only one could take home the golden statuette.
Newcomer Lupita Nyong'o was nominated for her role as Patsey, a slave caught between her master (Michael Fassbender) and his wife. The Yale graduate tackles the heartbreaking role with talent and poise, making everyone forget it is her first feature film. It was the first Oscar nomination for Nyong'o and first win.
