Valentine's Day is upon us, and if you have young kids at home and/or forgot to secure a sitter, you're probably going to have to celebrate at home. Perhaps you've been together a while and don't get caught up in the dinner and gifts revelry any more (if ever!). We hear you, and we've got some great recommendations for a lovely romantic movie night after the kids have gone to bed.

For couples who love old-school rom-coms: "You've Got Mail"

There was something magical about Meg Ryan in her Hollywood heyday, and she was once quite deservedly the queen of romantic comedies. Although we adore "When Harry Met Sally" and "Sleepless in Seattle," this remake of "The Shop Around the Corner" combines our love of New York-set romances, all things Tom Hanks, and the allure of bookstores.

For couples who like some quirk with their romance: "Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind"

This is definitely not your typical romance. In fact it's unforgettably weird and philosophical. Jim Carrey's Joel and Kate Winslet's Clementine will make you think about the nature of love (they've each had their memories of each other erased), and how strong someone's hold on your heart can be that no matter the odds, you still find yourself drawn to them.

For couples who love food: "Like Water for Chocolate"

Yes, it's in Spanish, but this Mexican adaptation of Laura Esquivel's magical realism is definitely worth reading subtitles. It's the tale of Tita, a young woman who's forbidden to marry in order to take care of her family. Tita transfers her unconsummated passion into her cooking, with sexy and hilarious results. If only actual Mexican food led to such ardor.

For couples who love sports: "Love & Basketball"

Starring a young Sanaa Lathan and Omar Epps, this love story is told in four quarters, just like a basketball game. It follows the two main characters as they grow from little neighbors playing hoops in their front yards to high school, college, and professional players who fall in love with each other as desperately as they do the game.

For couples who love swashbuckling heroes: "The Last of the Mohicans"

Daniel Day-Lewis has never been as sexy as he was in "The Last of the Mohicans," when he played Nathaniel "Hawkeye," the white adopted son of kind Mohican elder. An outdoorsman extraordinaire, he can single-handedly dodge tomahawks, run through difficult terrain, and romance a British officer's betrothed daughter without breaking a sweat. When he says "I will find you," prepare to swoon.

For couples who love "Downtown Abbey": "A Room With a View"

"A Room With a View" is Merchant-Ivory's fabulous adaptation of E.M. Forster's tale of passion and repression in Edwardian England. If that doesn't do it for you see it for one of movie history's most perfect kisses starring a young Helena Bonham Carter and Julian Sands getting to it in an Italian poppy field while Puccini plays in the background. Plus both Dame Maggie AND Judi are in it.

For couples who love classics: "Casablanca"

There is possibly no movie romance as epic as Bogart and Bergman's as Rick and Ilsa in "Casablanca." It's heartbreaking and grand and makes most other cinematic love stories seem shallow and inconsequential by comparison. Those looks between Rick and Ilsa will melt even the iciest of hearts, and we promise this is a film that has it all: love, war, action, sexual tension, and soul.
