"Avatar" fans will see some familiar faces -- motion-captured faces, anyway -- in the three upcoming sequels to James Cameron's epic 3D blockbuster.

Cameron just confirmed that Zoe Saldana and Sam Worthington will return for the still-untitled follow-ups to 2009's "Avatar," reprising their roles of Na'vi huntress Neytiri and wounded Marine Jake Sully, respectively. In a press release, the director praised his leads, and noted his excitement to collaborate with the pair once again.

"Jake Sully is a rare combination of passion, strength, street smarts and soul, which requires a lot from an actor. Sam brought to the role a combination of sensitivity, vulnerability and strength," Cameron said. "Zoë captured every aspect of the character I envisioned, bringing to Neytiri a mix of delicacy, fierceness and incredible physicality. I am beyond pleased they'll be returning with us to Pandora."

Actor Stephen Lang, who played Colonel Miles Quaritch, is also returning. Cameron will direct, and is collaborating on the three films' screenplays with writers Josh Friedman ("War of the Worlds"), Rick Jaffa and Amanda Silver ("Rise of the Planets of the Apes"), and Shane Salerno ("Savages").

Production on the sequels, which are set to be filmed back-to-back, will begin later this year. They're set for release in December 2016, December 2017, and December 2018.
