One day after Michael Douglas joined the cast, TheWrap is reporting that Michael Pena is also in negotiations to take a part in Edgar Wright's superhero flick. An unnamed source tells the site that Pena, currently gracing the big screen in "American Hustle," has already been offered a role and "wants to board the film."
TheWrap writes that Marvel is denying Pena is in talks for "Ant-Man," though Screen Crush points out that they previously said the same thing about Paul Rudd, who's now the star of the movie. And according to Collider's Steven Weintraub, Pena had previously indicated an interest in "Ant-Man," professing his love of Wright's work.
"At the time he was debating the role," Weintraub wrote on Twitter about a conversation he had with Pena close to the New Year's holiday. "I pitched him hard that he should do it. He repeatedly praised the script saying it was amazing."
So it seems that while Pena's involvement is still a rumor at this point, it's quite likely that he'll ink a deal. Here's hoping that Marvel's recent penchant for casting confirmations continues and we get a firm answer about Pena soon.
"Ant-Man" is slated to begin production this spring, and opens July 31, 2015.
