Hard-working Aussie Jason Clarke made an impression on moviegoers in 2012's "Zero Dark Thirty," but "Terminator 5" could be his chance to break big. Clarke, who played a tough CIA operative in the Kathryn Bigelow drama, is up for the role of John Connor in a new take on this time-traveling franchise.

There's not a lot of information out there on how this film will fit into the "Terminator" universe, but it should be interesting to see how it plays out. Paramount and director Alan Taylor are still hashing out the details of who will play John's mom Sarah Connor -- it's split between Emilia Clarke and Brie Larson -- but things are looking good for Clarke. (It also helps that the buff actor already worked with producer Megan Ellison on "ZDT.")

Clarke's been busting his hump in Hollywood for years, so it's cool to see the actor's star continue to rise. He has a lead role in the "Dawn of the Planet of the Apes" (as a human!) and recently appeared in the 3D extravaganza "The Great Gatsby." Eventually, we'll see him in Terrence Malick's "Knight of Cups," hopefully before Skynet takes over.

So far the only main character left to cast is Connor's dad Kyle Reese. We're also very curious to see how Arnold Schwarzenegger fits into all of this.
