Play ball... and some music, too!

The 1988 classic movie "Bull Durham" -- considered by many to be the best baseball movie of all time - is getting made into a musical, with Ron Shelton adapting his Oscar-nominated screenplay for the project. The show will first hit the stage in Atlanta, and if successful, could make its way to Broadway.

According to The Hollywood Reporter, singer-songwriter Susan Werner will pen the music and lyrics. Kip Fagan will direct, while Joshua Bergasse ("Smash") creates the choreography.

No word yet on casting of the major roles. The original movie featured Kevin Costner as the charming and sharp-witted veteran catcher Crash Davis; Tim Robbins as dim bulb rookie pitcher Ebby Laloosh; and Susan Sarandon as fiery, flirtatious baseball (and baseball player) lover Annie Savoy.

"Bull Durham: The Musical" will premiere in September 2014 at the Alliance Theater in Atlanta.
