Action: 'Pacific Rim' (2013)
Arguable one of the year's best action movies (what sounds more awesome than Jaegers versus Kaijus?), "Pacific Rim" is full of blockbuster fun. Guillermo Del Toro's future-set film stars Charlie Hunnam, Idris Elba, and Rinko Kikuchi, and its stunning visuals and gripping action won't leave you bored for a moment. So, if you haven't seen it yet, what are you waiting for? And if you have, why not revisit the monstrous battles again?

Classic: 'Manhattan' (1979)
Hopeless romance, New York City, black-and-white, and Woody Allen: could it get any better than that? No, it can't. Allen's 1979 favorite, "Manhattan," stars him (who else?) as a TV writer trying to write a novel who just so happens to be dating a high schooler, but then decides to look for love elsewhere. This quintessential Woody Allen comedy is perfect to revisit on a cold night when you're dreaming of romance and the Manhattan skyline -- and don't we all do that from time to time?

Sci-Fi: 'Terminator 2: Judgment Day' (1991)
Arnold Schwarzenegger's Terminator is back in James Cameron's sequel, and this time he's reprogrammed with one badass mission: to protect the the young John Connor (Edward Furlong) from the dangerous T-1000 cyborg (Robert Patrick). From it's epic motorcycle-semi chase to Arnold's one-handed shotgun tricks, "Terminator 2" has, over time, become regarded as one of the best sci-fi/action flicks ever made.

Indie/Documentary: 'Blackfish' (2013)
This acclaimed documentary critiques the dangers of keeping killer whales captive. Gabriela Cowperthwaite's "Blackfish" examines the notorious Tilikum, the killer whale responsible for the deaths of multiple people, including the whale's trainer. While disturbing and emotional, "Blackfish" will make you question who the real villains are: the corporate theme parks or the animals.

Foreign: 'Blancanieves' (2012)
This Spanish film offers an unusual twist on the "Snow White" tale and follows the young daughter of a matador who escapes her evil stepmother to join a troupe of bullfighting dwarfs. And did we mention "Blancanieves" is a silent film shot in black and white? If that doesn't tickle your cinephile fancy then we don't know what does! Also said to be a more sincere masterpiece of modern silent film than "The Artist" (no hate, we still love the Oscar-winner), this Spanish film is definitely a must-see.
