Sisters Mary-Kate and Ashley Olsen first entered our lives at the tender age of nine months, sharing the role of Michelle Tanner on TGIF staple "Full House." But now, the twins are 27 and much more focused on building their fashion and beauty brands than continuing their acting careers.
In an interview with Women's Wear Daily, the Olsens discussed the expansion of their high-end fashion line, The Row, and their entrance into the world of fragrance with their brand Elizabeth and James. The girls have always been more drawn to the business side of show business, they explained, starting their company Dualstar when they were just six and expanding it into an empire that included home videos, clothing and accessories, dolls, CDs, and everything in between.
"With what we were doing in business when we were younger, I don't think it ever felt like we were actresses, because we spent so much more of our time not in front of the cameras, building a brand," Mary-Kate said.
Now, the twins are eschewing the spotlight to focus on other things that they're passionate about, they said. They don't have any current plans to step in front of a camera.
"We have a video catalogue of everything we did when we were younger, so we're looking at distribution for that now," Ashley said. "That's not being in show business, but it's been fun talking to these people we used to be in business with many, many years ago. But the industries are completely different."
"We still feel welcome in the [entertainment] industry," added Mary-Kate. "But it's not the one we're in."
