Moviefone's DVD of the Week:
"The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey"
What's It About?
The first installment of Peter Jackson's three-part adaptation of the beloved J.R.R. Tolken novel, "The Hobbit," follows an epic quest to retain a treasure. Martin Freeman stars as the titular Bilbo Baggins hobbit (the younger version of Ian Holm's Bilbo), who travels with a pack of dwarves to reclaim their stolen treasure from the vicious dragon Smaug.
Why We're In: While Jackson's "The Hobbit: The Unexpected Journey" is in no way as grand or as incredible as his "Lord of the Rings" films, it is still a fun and worthy visualization of the book.

Moviefone's Top Blu-ray of the Week:
"James Dean: The Ultimate Collector's Edition"
What's It About?
This collection features the three films that spanned the iconic actor's short career. In Elia Kazan's 1955 "East of Eden," Dean plays Cal, a young man who feels he must compete with his brother for their father's love. The classic "Rebel Without a Cause" from director Nicholas Ray is easily Dean's best and most legendary film, in which he plays a young juvenile-delinquent. In Dean's final film, "Giant," the young actor costars alongside Rock Hudson and Elizabeth Taylor in a story about a Texas cattle rancher.
Why We're In: Few actors have become as icon as James Dean, much less with only three films to their name. This ultimate collection not only brings each of Dean's films to Blu-ray for the first time, but celebrates his short, yet unforgettable career.

New On DVD & Blu-ray:
"As I Lay Dying"
What's It About?
Directed, co-written by, and starring James Franco (of course), "As I Lay Dying" is adapted from William Faulkner's classic 1930 novel. The story follows the Bundren family as they carry their mother's body to be buried in her hometown. Co-starring Danny McBride and Logan Marshall-Green, Franco's adaptation is a decent achievement, but comes off far too academic.

"The Fitzgerald Family Christmas"
What's It About?
Written, directed by, and starring Edward Burns, "The Fitzgerald Family Christmas" follows the adult Fitzgerald siblings preparing for their estranged father to join them for the holiday after a 20-year absence. Also starring Connie Britton, this dysfunctional-family, holiday movie has the right amount of sentimentalism to please.

"GIrl Most Likely"
What's It About?
In "Girl Most Likely," Kristin Wiig plays Imogene, a once-famed New York playwright whose life and career is now in decline. After staging a suicide to get her ex's attention, she's forced to life with her gambler mother (Annette Bening). Unfortunately Wiig's humor can't even save this dull and melodramatic comedy that completely misses the mark.

"Grown Ups 2"
What's It About?
This sequel starring Adam Sandler, David Spade, Chris Rock, and Kevin James follows Sandler's Larry when he moves back to the gang's hometown. If you didn't think a comedy could get any worse than the first "Grown Ups," we're sorry to break the news, but the sequel is even worse with its gross and lazy humor.

"Lovelace"
What's It About?
Amanda Seyfried portrays the infamous "Deep Throat" porn star Linda Lovelace in this biopic from Rob Epstein and Jeffery Friedman (the duo behind "Howl"). Peter Sarsgaard, Sharon Stone, James Franco (as Hugh Hefner), and Juno Temple costar in "Lovelace," which fails to do its fascinating main character justice, only reducing her to a victim.

"Parkland"
What's It About?
This drama recounts JFK's assassination and the events that took place at Dallas' Parkland Hospital. Starring Billy Bob Thornton, Zac Efron, Tom Welling, and Marcia Gay Harden, "Parkland" attempts to offer a unique look at the historical event, but suffers from covering too many aspects. Those who remember that day may find something moving in the film, but otherwise it's too unfocused to lend anything new.

"Passion"
What's It About?
Brian De Palma's remake of the 2010 French thriller "Love Crime" stars Rachel McAdams and Noomi Rapace about a rivalry between two women. While "Passion," a lust and crime thriller, is quintessential De Palma, it fails to hold any momentum throughout.

"Renoir"
What's It About?
This French drama tells the story of the beloved Impressionist painter Pierre-Auguste Renoir in his later years. When one of his sons, Jean Renoir, returns home from WWI, the elder Renoir begins to fall for a young girl who models for him, but Jean too develops feelings for her. "Renoir" is a visually beautiful film, filled with warm colors and light that resemble a masterpiece on canvas. While the story is slow and thin, the beauty of the film make up for it.

"Syrup"
What's It About?
"Syrup" stars Amber Heard, Kellan Lutz ("Twilight"), Shiloh Fernandez ("Evil Dead"), and Brittany Snow in a story about the cut-throat world of advertising. When Scat (Fernandez), a young marketing prodigy, comes up with a million-dollar idea, he must convince his attractive boss (Heard) that it will work. This rom-com satire thinks it is funnier and wittier than it actually is and, overall, it's wholly forgettable.

"White House Down"
What's It About?
Roland Emmerich's "White House Down" stars Channing Tatum as a Capital police officer who must protect Jamie Foxx's U.S. President when a paramilitary group takes over the White House. Full of Emmerich's signature loud and ridiculous spectacles, "White House Down" overstays its welcome and is full of more cliches than you could count.
