Indie: 'Bridegroom' (2013)
This award-winning documentary showcases the struggle of a same-sex couple in California, Shane Bitney Cone and Tom Bridegroom, who were planning to be married once California's same-sex marriage law was passed. Providing a deeply personal view to the ongoing struggle of same-sex marriage, the film follows Cone after the tragic death of Bridegroom, his partner of six years, and the Bridegroom family's refusal to let Cone attend the funeral. If you like deep, thought-provoking documentaries -- and even just love stories -- then this is your Indie pick for the weekend.

Produced in Hong Kong, the third film in this action series chronicles the early life of martial arts master Ip Man. If you enjoyed the previous installments, or are a fan of martial arts in general (Ip Man was Bruce Lee's teacher), then "The Legend Is Born" won't disappoint. Starring Yu-Hang To in the titular role, Ip Man fights off foreign invaders, trains under three Wing Chun masters, and still makes time for romantic interests in this fast-paced flick.
