Moviefone's Top DVD of the Week:
"Pacific Rim"
What's It About?
Guillermo del Toro's sci-fi adventure follows the rise of the Kaiju sea creatures, which threaten the future of mankind. In order to fight off the monstrous Kaiju, Jaeger robots are developed, which are controlled by two pilots who share a mental bond. In the face of an apocalypse, former pilot Raleigh (Charlie Hunnam) and trainee Mako (Rinko Kikuchi) are paired up to drive a Jaeger to save the planet.
Why We're In: Del Toro's sci-fi epic is great for every minute of its CGI spectacle ass-kicking. "Pacific Rim" was not only one of the most fun adventures of the summer, but it also featured solid performances from its two leads, along with Idris Elba. If you're looking for an action-packed film that will keep your eyes and ears entertained from start to finish, "Pacific Rim" is sure to please. It was also one of Moviefone's Best Movies of 2013 (So Far).

Moviefone's Top Bu-ray of the Week:
"High Plains Drifter" 40th Anniversary Edition
What's It About?
Clint Eastwood's second directorial effort in 1973's "High Plains Drifter" stars him as a drifter who rides into the small town of Lago. When the townsfolk fear three coming outlaws they beg Eastwood's The Stranger to train them to defend themselves, only to soon discover that he's not who he appears to be.
Why We're In: "High Plains Drifter" was an impressive effort for Eastwood, especially as his first Western behind the camera. While John Wayne personally objected to the film's unusual twist on the western genre, the film is nonetheless highly entertaining for its semi-supernatural elements.

"A Hijacking"
What's It About?
Tobias Lindhom's ("The Hunt") "A Hijacking" tells the true story of a Danish cargo ship hijacked by Somali pirates. Don't get this intense thriller confused with Paul Greengrass's action, adventure film "Captain Phillips" starring Tom Hanks; "A Hijacking" is a gritty and exhausting drama that focuses more on the terror and suspense of the negotiations that follow.

"The Colony" follows a struggling outpost of survivors who are forced underground during the next Ice Age. When Colony 7 received a distress signal for a nearby settlement, Sam (Kevin Zegers) and Briggs (Laurence Fishburne) must embark on a dangerous rescue mission. The thriller, which also stars Bill Paxton, hardly survives on its own exhausted cliches and cheesy special effects.

"The Heat"
What's It About?
Paul Feig's ("Bridesmaids") cop comedy "The Heat" follows an uptight FBI agent (Sandra Bullocks) who must team up with a vulgar Boston cop (Melissa McCarthy) to take down a dangerous drug lord. While ultimately predictable, "The Heat" is worthwhile for the hilarious banter between McCarthy and Bullock and its refreshing gender swapping within the genre.

"Maniac"

Co-written by Alexandre Aja ("The Hills Have Eyes," "High Tension") and from director Frank Khalfoun ("P2"), "Maniac" is a remake of the 1980 cult film of the same name. This horror remake stars Elijah Wood as the shy and creepy owner of a mannequin shop who murders women and takes home a little souvenir for himself. Shot entirely in first person P.O.V, "Maniac" is a chilling and gory thriller that will simultaneously creep you out and awe you with its alluring cinematography and score.

John Carpenter's 1994 horror film stars Sam Neill, Jurgen Prochnow, and David Warner in a story about an insurance investigator who discovers that the nightmares from a horror writer's books are coming true.
