Disney's been looking at its calendar and checking it twice.

Hot on the heels of yesterday's news about Marvel moving "Ant-Man" up to July 2015 comes an update on "Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Men Tell No Tales." The fifth installment of the franchise that made Johnny Depp rich enough to buy his own island has been bumped from summer 2015 -- and it currently has no new release date.

Producer Jerry Bruckheimer told The Hollywood Reporter, "We have an outline everyone loves but the script is not done." According to THR, "Bruckheimer says it was necessary to push the project because 'we're supposed to start in March and you start spending a lot of money now.'"

Speaking of money, Bruckheimer was also a producer on "The Lone Ranger," whose dismal box office earnings he and stars Armie Hammer and Johnny Depp blamed on U.S. critics. After eating the cost of that misfire and other lackluster summer movies, it's entirely reasonable that Disney would rather focus on its Marvel offerings before the next Bruckheimer-Depp collaboration.

Although the franchise has been a reliable moneymaker for years (enough to spawn four movies so far, in any case), perhaps Marvel's offerings are more of a sure thing for the time being.
