In "The Railway Man," Colin Firth stars as Eric Lomax, a traumatized former soldier whose bouts of PTSD leave his new wife Patti (Nicole Kidman) confused and worried. Patti enlists Lomax's old friend and fellow soldier Finlay (Stellan Skarsgard) to help her understand her husband's tragic past.

Finlay reveals that he and Eric are survivors of the prisoner of war camp forced to work on the Thai-Burma railway after the fall of Singapore during World War II, as chronicled in Eric Lomax's eponymous real-life autobiography. "War Horse" star Jeremy Irvine plays young Eric, who suffers unfathomable horrors at the hands of his captors. One particularly sadistic soldier, played by Hiroyuki Sanada, so haunts Eric that he returns to the scene of the crime to confront his former torturer.

Through it all, Patti stands by Eric. "I have suffered much, but you have suffered too, and you mean everything to me," says Firth in a voiceover in the first trailer from the drama.

"The Railway Man," which just premiered at the Toronto International Film Festival to mixed reviews, doesn't have a U.S. release date at the moment. But with its star power and dramatic story, we should hear something from Lionsgate soon.
