Ellen Page is in talks to take on the role of British spy Tara Chace in an adaptation of the graphic novel series "Queen & Country." Fans of her "X-Men" character Kitty Pryde have been clamoring for the petite star to get her own major action flick, and goodness knows the comic book genre could use more high-profile ladies kicking butt -- is it possible Tara Chace is the big-screen heroine we've been waiting for?
According to "Variety," the idea to give Page her own franchise has been cooking at Fox for a while, and "[t]his property gives Page that and could do for Page what the Jason Bourne franchise did to lift Matt Damon's profile." That's an interesting comparison, given Damon's career trajectory: Like Page, he has the dramatic chops for work like "Behind the Candelabra" and "We Bought a Zoo," and the action abilities for big films like "Elysium" and "The Bourne Ultimatum."
Meanwhile, Page's career has never been hotter. The Oscar nominee continues to switch it up with work on smaller films like Lynn Shelton's "Touchy Feely" and Zal Batmanglij's "The East" and big-budget affairs like "X-Men: Days of Future Past." She has several additional projects lined up, including her directorial debut "Miss Stevens" and a drama called "Freeheld," based on the Oscar-nominated short documentary about a dying police officer's work to have her pension benefits transferred to her domestic partner.
Page also stars in the upcoming PlayStation 3 game "Beyond: Two Souls" with Willem Dafoe. That game's street date is October 8, 2013.
You can currently see Page in the indie "Touchy Feely," which is in theaters and available on demand.
