"Game of Thrones" and "Thor: The Dark World" director Alan Turner may be poised to take on yet another action franchise, with Variety reporting that he is in talks to helm the first installment in a rumored trilogy reboot of the "Terminator" series.

A source tells Variety that Turner is in early negotiations to take the job, though studios Skydance Productions, Paramount, and Annapurna Pictures had no comment on the report. It was previously rumored that Ang Lee, Rian Johnson ("Looper"), and Denis Villeneuve ("Prisoners") were all eyed for the director's chair before Turner.

Though no plot has been revealed yet, the film -- written by Laeta Kalogridis and Patrick Lussier, whose credits include "Avatar," "Shutter Island," and "Wes Craven's Dracula" -- would begin a new standalone trilogy in the "Terminator" universe. Original series star Arnold Schwarzenegger has indicated in recent interviews that he will be back to reprise his role in the new film, though it's unclear in what capacity.

The movie is expected in theaters on June 26, 2015.
