The first trailer for "Dallas Buyers Club," the upcoming true-life drama starring Matthew McConaughey as a man diagnosed with HIV and given 30 days to live, is finally here -- and although we've seen photos of McConaughey's and Jared Leto's radical transformations, both behind the scenes and in movie stills, this is our first glimpse of them in character.
Ron Woodroof (McConaughey, minus 47 pounds) is a good old boy who's shocked to find out that he has HIV. Faced with the confusion and fear surrounding the growing AIDS epidemic in the mid-'80s, Woodroof decides his best course of action is to seek alternative treatment in Mexico. He eventually hits on a moneymaking scheme smuggling illegal (i.e. non-FDA-approved) drugs in from Mexico and selling them to other people living with HIV.
Woodruff reluctantly goes into business with an HIV-positive transwoman named Rayon (Leto), with help from a supportive doctor played by Jennifer Garner. Together, they form the Dallas Buyers Club and unwittingly begin a movement to change how the medical establishment treats people with HIV and AIDS.
The trailer (as well as Entertainment Tonight's first-look teaser, also included below) is quite impressive. Given that it's taken 20 years to make its way to the screen, "Dallas Buyers' Club" is a true labor of love -- one we're sure the filmmakers and stars are excited to see finally come to fruition.
The movie's world premiere will be at the Toronto Film Festival, which is coming up quicker than we realize. "Dallas Buyers Club" will open to the public on November 1.
