"Before Midnight" this is not.
Ethan Hawke's third movie of the summer, "Getaway," is more in line with his dystopian thriller "The Purge" than the final installment in Richard Linklater's celebrated indie trilogy.
Teaming him up with unlikely co-star Selena Gomez, "Getaway" has Hawke's ex-race car driver character careering around town in a mad attempt to rescue his wife (Rebecca Budig) from the clutches of an unknown baddie (Jon Voight). In order to keep his lady from harm, Hawke has to commit a series of crimes for the unseen -- but very much heard -- puppet master.
"Why has this happened? Why you?" Gomez asks.
"Because I can drive," Hawke responds, and it's all very deep and moving.
This latest trailer is a predictable mix of screeching tires, screaming, and ominous music, and it's no less odd seeing Gomez and Hawke trading lines than when the first teaser hit the Internet in early June.
"Getaway" lands in theaters August 30.
