As one character says in the trailer for "The Book Thief," "words are life."
The words of Markus Zuzak come to life in director Brian Percival's adaptation of the author's bestselling novel. In the World War II-era story, a young girl named Liesel (Sophie Nélisse) goes to live with her new adoptive parents, played by Geoffrey Rush and Emily Watson.
Liesel loves books, and despite the oppressive rules of the Nazi regime, begins to steal books to save them from being burned. "When life robs you, sometimes you have to rob it back," she says.
And that isn't the family's only form of rebellion: Liesel's parents hide a young man in their basement, an offense that could cost them everything.
From the trailer, it's clear this will be a three-hanky kind of movie -- heartwarming, uplifting, and inspiring.
"The Book Thief" opens in theaters November 15.
