"The Smurfs 2," "2 Guns," and "The Spectacular Now" all hit theaters this week, and we're here to give you the lowdown on all three.
Neil Patrick Harris, Jayma Mays, and Hank Azaria reprise their roles in the Smurf-tastic sequel to 2011's "The Smurfs," and are joined by some new, tiny creatures this time around. Evil-doer Gargamel (Azaria) is up to no good (again) when he creates Smurf-like creatures called The Naughties in an attempt to harness magical Smurf essence -- but only a real Smurf can give the wizard what he wants, so he sets his sights on Smurfette, kidnaps her, and brings her to Paris. Now it's now up to Papa Smurf and the gang to save Smurfette and stop Gargamel from taking over the world. The animated-live action hybrid is in theaters now.
For a not-so family-friendly, R-rated trip to the movies, there's "2 Guns." Denzel Washington and Mark Wahlberg star in the action-comedy about two undercover cops from competing law enforcement bureaus forced to work together, and who soon become each other's only allies. When an attempt to infiltrate a Mexican drug cartel goes awry, the duo is written off by their supervisors and targeted by the bad guys, leaving them with no choice but to run. We smell an unlikely friendship/bromance brewing!
For date night, there's "The Spectacular Now," the story of an unlikely high-school couple made up of the quiet girl and the popular guy. Based on a book by the same name, the movie stars Shailene Woodley ("The Descendants") and Miles Teller ("21 & Over") as the teenage lovers. The story follows the pair through the perils of young love, but with some unexpected twists thrown their way. The movie hits theaters in limited release (NY & LA) on Friday.
