The long-awaited "Poltergeist" reboot is picking up steam, with news that the film has found its leading lady.

Rosemarie DeWitt will play the lead in the new movie, which, according to rumors posted online earlier this year, could be a remake in the vein of the recent "Evil Dead" reboot -- keeping the name and some of the pressing details of the original, while telling a new story. This time around, Gil Kenan is directing, from a script by David Lindsay-Abaire, and "Evil Dead" mastermind Sam Raimi is producing.

The original film starred Craig T. Nelson and JoBeth Williams as parents whose youngest daughter goes missing following a wave of paranormal experiences in their home. DeWitt, who recently starred in "Promised Land," would likely play a role based on Williams's. Filmmakers are still searching for their male lead.

"Poltergeist" may start shooting later this year.
