Benedict Cumberbatch in 'The Fifth Estate'DreamWorks

Brace yourself, "Sherlock" fans, because Benedict Cumberbatch is looking creepier than ever in this trailer for "The Fifth Estate."

Cumberbatch plays WikiLeaks founder Julian Assange, a controversial activist whose website publishes countless leaked documents and assorted media, including the infamous footage of a 2007 airstrike in Baghdad, classified military documents, and much more.

The movie also stars Daniel Bruhl as Assange's friend and WikiLeaks spokesperson Daniel Domscheit-Berg. Domscheit-Berg later wrote the book "Inside Wikileaks: My Time With Julian Assange at the World's Most Dangerous Website," which is one of the sources the screenplay draws from.

"The Fifth Estate" has already raised the ire of Assange, who's slammed the film as "a massive propaganda attack on WikiLeaks and the character of my staff." (Assange has said he's already read a copy of the script.) However, it's not clear if director Bill Condon's vision spins him as a traitor or a do-gooder, or something more middle-of-the-road.

The trailer ends with the tagline "You Are the Fifth Estate," and shows Cumberbatch's character seemingly addressing the viewer, saying, "If you want the truth, you should seek it out for yourself. That's what they're afraid of: you."

Condon tells Vulture, "We're trying very hard to make a movie that raises all the questions without providing all the answers. ... And the tagline, it has to do with the idea of citizen journalism, the great wild west of the Internet. It's a true revolution that we're just coming to terms with."

With an all-star cast that also includes Stanley Tucci, Laura Linney, Anthony Mackie, Carine van Houten, and up-and-comer Alicia Vikander, "The Fifth Estate" will be one to watch when it comes out October 18.
