Aubrey Plaza in 'The To Do List'CBS

Aubrey Plaza had to go where she'd never gone before as an actress for her upcoming comedy "The To Do List," a raunchy coming-of-age affair about a goody-goody high school valedictorian -- "Plaza's version of Tracy Flick from 'Election,'" per writer-director Maggie Carey -- who's on a mission to tick off a bucket list of sexual escapades the summer before college.

For the movie, Plaza had to film her first sex scene, as well as other simulated activities. (The bucket list is very thorough.)

Speaking with the New York Times, Plaza described the faux-bedroom scenes as "a nightmare," though she was apparently "smiling broadly" while saying that, so either they weren't so terrible, or she was channeling her sarcastic "Parks and Recreation" character April Ludgate at the time. "I was like, this is the weirdest acting job I've ever had in my life," she concluded.

But she appreciates the underlying feminist message -- that the horny teen landscape isn't limited to just guys. "Girls learn how to masturbate, too; we just haven't seen it before," Plaza said matter-of-factly.

Maggie Carey expanded on that, explaining that Plaza's character isn't out for anything more than a good time. "It wasn't about love, she wasn't looking to get married, she was just like, 'He is hot,'" she said. "Women have those feelings as much as men. You don't see it a lot in this genre of movie, so that was important to me."

Carey emphasized, "[T]his is not a romantic comedy, this is a comedy-comedy."

"The To Do List" also stars Carey's husband Bill Hader, Scott Porter, Alia Shawkat, Rachel Bilson, Christopher Mintz-Plasse, Andy Samberg, and Donald Glover. Plaza begins checking off X-rated items when the comedy hits theaters July 26.
