A new teaser poster for "Captain America: The Winter Soldier" suggests that there are tough times ahead for our hero in the sequel to the 2011 flick that introduced the first Avenger.
The simple image depicts the Captain's iconic stars and stripes-themed shield, only it's lost almost all its luster, with its blue a faded wash and its red almost entirely peeled away. The poster is bathed in an ominous shadow, giving a literalness to "Winter Soldier"'s official plot description, which has Captain America (Chris Evans) "battle a powerful yet shadowy enemy in present-day Washington, D.C." alongside Black Widow (Scarlett Johansson).
"Winter Soldier" is set to pick up right where "The Avengers" left off, and the Captain is still struggling to adjust to the modern world. The return of his friend Bucky Barnes (Sebastian Stan) as the titular villain will no doubt also further complicate things for our hero.
The poster and those plot details certainly indicate that the sequel will be a darker tale than its predecessor, though more info is expected to be unveiled at Comic-Con next week. "Captain America: The Winter Soldier" is set for release on April 4, 2014.
