Helen Mirren is set to play a French chef at war with the Indian restaurant across the street in the upcoming feature "The Hundred-Foot Journey."
The film, based on the novel by Richard C. Morais, stars Mirren as Madame Mallory, an eccentric, renowned chef of a three-star Michelin restaurant whose life is turned upside down when an Indian family moves to her small town in southern France and opens up shop 100 feet away. The two restaurants begin an intense competition, only to form an unlikely bond.
Manish Dayal will co-star as Hassan Haji, the young man at the center of the competition with Madame Mallory. Dayal is best known for his television roles, on series such as "90210" and "Switched at Birth."
The film has an impressive pedigree: In addition to Academy Award-winning Mirren, Oscar nominee Lasse Hallstrom ("The Cider House Rules") is directing, and Steven Spielberg and Oprah Winfrey are among the producers. Production begins in September, and the movie will shoot in both India and France.
Expect "The Hundred-Foot Journey" in theaters Aug. 8, 2014.
