Few films have sparked quite as much intrigue as Lars von Trier's forthcoming two-part sex epic (sepic?) "Nymphomaniac."
Contributing to the movie's hype are its high-profile cast, which includes Shia LaBeouf, Jamie Bell, Charlotte Gainsbourg, Stellan Skarsgard, Willem Dafoe, Christian Slater, and Connie Nielsen, and the tease of explicit sex sequences, many unsimulated. (In a bit of CGI trickery, von Trier is combining the actors' upper halves with porn stars' foreign parts.)
To be released in two parts subdivided into eight chapters, "Nymphomaniac" (stylized "Nymph()maniac") charts the sexual life of one character over the course of 50 years. The mystique of the project, from one of international cinema's leading provocateurs, is almost too much to handle -- but now we finally have a glimpse at the action to come.
The brief clip, from the first chapter of the first movie, "The Compleat Angler," shows Joe (Stacy Martin) and her friend B (Sophie Kennedy Clark) preparing to seduce a pair of boys on a train. The dialogue is fairly naturalistic, if somewhat cringe-worthy, and the cinematography, beautiful. The sneak peek ends right before Joe makes her move, and it certainly leaves you hungry for more.
Magnolia Pictures has the domestic rights to "Nymphomaniac," but they've yet to reveal their release plans. Hopefully it will be out shortly after the Christmas 2013 debut in Denmark; it would be a Christmas miracle -- a filthy, filthy Christmas miracle.
