CATEGORIES Movie NewsThe upcoming "Annie" remake may have found its Daddy Warbucks: Jamie Foxx is in talks to take on the role of the rich man who adopts the titular orphan, played by Quvenzhane Wallis.
Foxx would play Benjamin Stacks, an updated take on the Warbucks character whose name literally means money. (In case you're not a Puff Daddy fan: "Benjamin" is slang for $100 bills.) Foxx certainly has the musical chops to carry the role: he won an Oscar and Golden Globe for portraying legendary musician Ray Charles in "Ray," starred in "Dreamgirls," and released several successful R&B albums, for which he also won a Grammy.
Plus, Foxx should have no trouble embodying the chrome-domed character after sporting the bald look for his upcoming role as Electro in "The Amazing Spider-Man 2." His charismatic personality should also lend itself well to Warbucks/Stacks, since the millionaire forms a close relationship with the spunky Annie.
The movie, produced by Will Smith and Jay-Z and helmed by "Easy A" director Will Gluck, is set to begin production later this year, with an eye on a 2014 release. Bet your bottom dollar it'll be fun.
