CATEGORIES Movie NewsIn case you didn't know, there's a "Heat" remake in the works starring Jason Statham and a lot of other famous people. Simon West of "The Expendables 2" and "Con Air" fame will be directing, based on a screenplay by the original writer William Goldman. Goldman wrote the novel on which the '86 original was based, as well as that movie's screenplay; it's not clear how different the remake will be. (To clarify this film has nothing to do with the 1995 movie "Heat" starring Robert De Niro and Al Pacino.)
Statham's snagged the lead role of Nick Escalante, a character made famous by Burt Reynolds in the original. Escalante has a gambling problem that he supports by working as a bodyguard for his buddies around Vegas. Things get very personal for him after his ex-girlfriend Holly (Dominik Garcia-Lorido) has a rather nasty run-in with a businessman named Danny DeMarco.
Milo Ventimiglia just signed on to play DeMarco, a rather icky piece of work who's also pretty tight with the local mob. You can catch the former "Heroes" star in the vampire indie "Kiss of the Damned" and the upcoming "Grown Ups 2" and "Grace of Monaco."
Other stars include Michael Angarano, who will play one of Nick's clients, Anne Heche, Hope Davis, Stanley Tucci, Cedric the Entertainer, and Sofia Vergara of "Modern Family." It will be very interesting to compare and contrast this new cast to the '86 originals.
Will the balding badass Statham live up to the Reynolds legacy? And how do these other actors fit into the big picture? Stay tuned as more details emerge.
