CATEGORIES Movie NewsRyan Gosling and Eva Mendes, who both star in multi-generational crime epic "The Place Beyond the Pines," which started its slow, national roll-out last week, have been dating since last fall. And while the two definitely seem to have a sense of humor about their relationship (they even starred in a Funny or Die video together), Gosling still seems to get touchy when people step to his girl.
According to a New York Post report, a fashion photographer who had previously shot the unreasonably attractive Mendes shouted "Hey baby!" when he saw her at a downtown Manhattan hotel. Ryan (who is, it should also be noted, unreasonably attractive) then "got in the guy's face and said, 'Who are you calling baby?'"
The description in the Post suggests a near brawl, with Mendes having to get in between the two dudes. The same report says that it ended quite placidly, when Ryan "made nice and shook the guy's hand."
Two things strike us about this: 1) Gosling, from the brief time we've spent with him, seems like the most relaxed, least confrontational dude on the planet, and 2) given Mendes's hotness and popularity, this can't be the first time an admirer (or colleague) has called her baby -- inside or outside Gosling's mellow aura.
In that same Post report, it states that Gosling and Mendes appeared at a party for the movie (hosted at the same hotel where the near-kerfuffle took place) but stayed at opposite ends of the room. We posit that it was less about seeming like they aren't dating and more about fire safety: the combined sexual heat of the two of could have caused some kind of deadly explosion or fire.
