Iceman and Goose are reuniting ... sort of.

"Top Gun" stars Val Kilmer and Anthony Edwards are voicing fighter jets named Bravo and Echo in "Planes," the "Cars" spinoff from Disney Animation (not Pixar). The two F-18s are called upon to help out Dusty (Dane Cook), a crop-dusting single-prop who signs up for a high-flying rally around the world.

"When you think of movies with planes, 'Top Gun' usually comes up, so it is fun to be part of this," Edwards told USA Today. "Our naval aviators are some of the best pilots in the world, and Val and I were lucky enough to get to play them twice."

The rest of the voice cast includes Julia Louis-Dreyfus as French-Canadian racer Rochelle. John Cleese as a Royal Air Force veteran. Teri Hatcher as forklift Dottie, and Brad Garrett as fuel truck Chug.

"Planes" was initially set to be a direct-to-DVD movie, but Walt Disney and Pixar Animation Studios Chief Creative Officer John Lasseter (who directed both "Cars" movies) gave his thumbs up to a theater release. Audiences can expect "Planes" to take off on Aug. 9, 2013. Earlier, our friends over at Huffington Post debuted the new poster for the film, which you can see in full, below.
