"Argo"
Nominated For: Best Picture, Best Supporting Actor (Alan Arkin), Best Film Editing, Best Music, Best Sound Editing, Best Sound Mixing, Best Adapted Screenplay
What's It About? Based on the real-life Iranian revolution of the late 1970s and early 1980s, "Argo" focuses on six American diplomat fugitives who just barely escape a violent protesting mob. They take refuge in the Canadian Embassy in Iran, and together with the CIA concoct an outrageous plan to get them back to American soil.
Why You Should See It: In today's climate of war and international hostility, "Argo" is a nice change of pace. Not only does it depict how well nations can work together, but finally, Canada comes out looking cool instead of as the butt of jokes. Ben Affleck's hair and '70s wardrobe also make the film worth seeing.
It's Kind of Like: The seriousness of "Munich" paired with the fashion/feel of "Boogie Nights."
How You Should See It: "Argo" is still playing in theaters. You can check out showtimes here.
