What's It About? Based on the bestselling book by Yann Martel, this film follows Pi, the son of a zookeeper, who ends up stranded in the middle of the ocean after the ship he's on sinks. However, Pi is not alone. Onboad his lifeboat is a zebra, a hyena, an orangutan and a Bengal tiger, all of whom are fighting to survive.
Why You Should See It: "Life of Pi" may be the most inspirational movie of the year. It's a magnificent story of heartbreak and triumph, anchored by an outstanding performance from newcomer Suraj Sharma, who beat out 3,000 teens for the role of Pi. Another reason to watch: Ang Lee. This absolutely gorgeous adaptation comes courtesy of the critically acclaimed filmmaker, whose past credits include "Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon" and "Brokeback Mountain."
It's Kind of Like: "Poseidon Adventure" meets the TV show "Lost" meets "We Bought a Zoo"
