Despite protestations that it was "unfilmable," the upcoming movie "Cloud Atlas" has answered with a first look at the film, in the form of a jaw-dropping six minute trailer. Adapted by sci-fi vets Andy and Lana Wachowski ("The Matrix"), along with Tom Tykwer ("Run Lola Run"), the movie is based on David Mitchell's ambitious, century-spanning novel.
Here, the cast -- Tom Hanks (at times wearing a rather unfortunate blond wig), Halle Berry, Hugh Grant, Jim Sturgess, and Susan Sarandon -- all do double duty (hexa-duty?) as they play out six story lines, which span time and space.
The film delves into the impressions that one leaves on future generations. Or, more poetically, as the trailer explains: "We cross and re-cross our old tracks like figure skaters."
For any disbelievers out there, take a look at the stunner above.
"Cloud Atlas" hits theaters October 26.
