UPDATE: Earlier today, Marvel made another huge splash at Comic-Con, announcing a "Guardians of the Galaxy" movie (if you don't know the "Guardians," head here), and announcing release dates and titles for "Thor 2" (which is being called "Thor: The Dark World") and "Captain America 2" (titled "Captain America: The Winter Soldier"). There was also a full "Iron Man 3" trailer shown to the very appreciative Hall H crowd.
You can read all the updates in the live blog -- and see the logos and concept art for Marvel's upcoming projects -- below.
EARLIER: In 2010, Marvel set Comic-Con ablaze with their announcement of "The Avengers," the epic superhero flick that brought together Iron Man, Captain America, Thor, the Hulk, Hawkeye and Black Widow. This year, Marvel was back at the Con promoting "Iron Man 3," the upcoming Robert Downey Jr.-starring sequel that's set to hit theaters on May 3, 2013.
However, this being Marvel at Comic-Con, you knew they had something big in store. Make sure to follow along with all the latest updates from the Marvel panel, below.
The crowd at Hall H is leaving now. They look very very satisfied with what they just saw
According to an ambigious Kevin Feige: "Well, if you remember at the end of 'the Avengers,' [Bruce] jumped in the car with Tony, and Tony dropped him off at the Port Authority and we'll see him again some day."
"I feel like I have the best seat in the house, because I am getting to watch it all unfold from a different perspective," said Favreau. "People coming up with new ideas in addition to what we had come up with before ... it's just so nice to see these characters grow but yet remain consistent with the world."
Black adds: "All these actors have a special place in my heart, but working with Downey Jr. is a f*cking dream."
"Iron Man" and "Iron Man 2" director Favreau added that "Shane [Black] made me feel very comfortable as did Robert [Downey Jr.] and Kevin [Feige]... Now I get to really just have fun. I've always admired Robert as an actor, which is why I hired the guy, and now I get to play with him.
"When we were shooting the first 'Iron man,' John [Favreau] and I would call Shane [Black] for help," said Downey Jr., adding that "Stan Lee wrote a very complex character, and then it was just what Kevin and John and I did, and what Kevin and Shane and I am doing. You're only as good as your partner." To which Black said, "If we don't fuck up the rest, it's going to be great."
"You mean like rescuing me from a bar?" says the always charming Downey Jr.
"Schwarma sales increased 700 percent," joked Downey Jr., in reference to the joke made at the end of this summer's superhero blockbuster "The Avengers." As for "Iron Man 3," as Feige tells the crowd, "This [chapter] is very much in the Tony Stark world."
OK! So they just showed a teaser trailer for "Iron Man 3" and Marvel has a whole lot of new stuff in store for the upcoming sequel. First off, it looks like Tony Stark has developed a brand-new function on his Iron Man suits; yes, the suit flies to him (that's right, flies). Also, say goodbye to Stark's beautiful California coastal house, because in this film, it is going to get destroyed (the clip featured a group of military helicopters firing rockets at Iron Man's humble abode). Last but not least, the end of the trailer included Ben Kingsley as rumored villain Mandarin. There were also a few brief appearances of War Machine (Don Cheadle) and the wonderful Pepper Potts (Gwyneth Paltrow).
"How much do I love you?" [Cheers]
"How much do you love me?" [Louder cheers]
"Why aren't we watching any [Iron Man 3] footage yet?" [Deafening cheers]
And everyone is EATING IT UP
"I have been doing one second of that for the last six years," joked Edgar Wright (again) about his "Ant-Man" test reel. The one-minute clip showed Ant-Man taking out two security agents. The test footage looked awesome. As Wright later said, "Ant-Man will kick your ass one inch at a time."
"I am taking the Terrence Malick approach," joked Wright, about the long delayed "Ant-Man" movie. Either way, he's still showing off the "Ant-Man" reel he did several weeks back. More to come!
Looks like we have some "Ant-Man" news coming!
Hitting theaters April 4, 2014
Maybe a stunt? Either way, it looks like they're going to be making a grand entrance
But people are still excited. Definite buzz in Hall H right now
The 'Iron Man 3'/Marvel panel in Hall H will begin at 6 p.m. PST. Stay tuned for updates!
