The first look at the film based on Lee Child's-penned character features Cruise as the brooding ex-soldier Reacher, on the hunt for a murderous sniper.
When Cruise was first chosen to play Reacher, fans of the character were not pleased -- in the books, Jack Reacher is a hulking six-foot-five, almost a foot taller than Cruise. However, Tom has been fully aware of the criticism, telling Empire Magazine, "I'm very sensitive to it. "This is Lee's book and Lee's character. Him giving me his blessing is what made me do it. If he hadn't then I wouldn't have done it."
Only time will tell whether Cruise lives up to the very high expectations that Lee Child fans have already set.
"Jack Reacher," starring Cruise, Rosamund Pike and Robert Duvall, hits theaters December 21.
